Paula had two bank accounts. Account One was titled "Paula and her nephew Niko, joint tenants with right of survivorship." The signature card stated that, at either party's death, the surviving party owned the account. Paula deposited all funds into Account One, and Niko never deposited money. Account Two was titled "Paula, with Niko as authorized convenience signer only." The Account Two agreement stated that the convenience signer had no ownership or survivorship rights.
Paula's will left "all cash and bank accounts" to her niece Sofia. Two days before Paula died, Niko withdrew $20,000 from Account Two to pay Paula's medical bills and kept receipts for all payments. After Paula died, Niko claimed both accounts by survivorship. Sofia claimed both accounts under the will and also demanded that Niko return the $20,000.
