Nina was arrested for armed robbery and taken to an interview room. A detective read the full Miranda warnings from a card. Nina said she understood. When asked whether she would talk, Nina shrugged and said, "I guess so." She then answered several questions and admitted that she was present when the robbery began but denied holding a gun.
After 30 minutes, Nina said, "Maybe I should talk to a lawyer." The detective continued questioning, and Nina answered. Ten minutes later, Nina said, "I do not want to answer any more questions tonight." The detective immediately stopped and left. One hour later, a different detective entered, reminded Nina of her Miranda rights, and asked about a separate burglary. Nina said, "Fine, I will talk about that," and confessed to the burglary. The next morning, before any officer entered the room, Nina knocked on the door and said, "I want to explain the robbery." After fresh warnings, she confessed to carrying the gun.
